Jim Kunaka on Zanu PF’s history of violence, and complicity of security services

HARARE – Former Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman Jim Kunaka used his testimony before the Kgalema Motlanthe-led commission investigating the August 1 post-election killing of six people by soldiers during opposition protests in Harare to document Zanu PF’s history for violence.

Kunaka, now a member of the National Patriotic F revealed how security forces, including the police and army, were also being directed by Zanu PF to frustrate opposition events including rallies.

He believes on occasions, Zanu PF youths have put on police uniforms to attack opposition leaders.

Kunaka says Zanu PF is the only party with a trained militia – the Border Gezi Youth Service graduates.

One of the commissioners, Charity Manyeruke, is a Zanu PF official and has been a key participant in meetings which planned violent attacks on the opposition. Manyeruke denied this, saying she has never attended a meeting with Kunaka.
